Currently I read a book about Gandhi. Actually it is not really about him. It is more a collection of some of his short letters he wrote to a friend who lost his wife and was depressed. Gandhi sent one letter every day. Every letter contained little wisdoms that helped his friend overcome his pain and even embrace it.
Here are some thoughts that I have gathered so far.
Love yourself
It doesn’t mean that one must be egoistic or arrogant. All it means is that love begins within yourself. Your whole being, physical and mental, is what has been given to you. Even your weaknesses are part of what you are that must be on your way. By accepting it you make the first step. By overcoming weaknesses you may make the second step if it is in the higher plan.
Inner Peace
You must be in peace with yourself and the world. Love, relationships and friendships cannot be the basis for one’s happiness. If you are unhappy by your own then you won’t be able to be happy in any kind of a relationship for relationships live solely by giving and taking. If at some point you won’t have any power and will to give, you won’t be able to sustain the relationship.
Be Flexible
Nothing is endless. Be ready for change. No matter what kind of change – whether good or bad. It will come and you must take it as it comes. By accepting this fact in advance you won’t have to deal with the accepting part when it is time to act.
Don’t Be Jealous
Jealousy absorbs your humanity. All pain, suffering and wars start with somebody being jealous of something another one has. Be glad with what you have. If you want more then don’t be jealous of someone who has but rather try to understand what he did to get it.
Be In The Moment
Everybody knows it. Even mainstream kids used the idea of it by inventing “YOLO”. But truthfully living the moment is one of the hardest tasks in nowadays societies. I noticed that I used to wake up in the morning and my first thoughts were concerned about to-dos and unpleasant tasks.
It is wrong! Don’t start your day like this. Thanks to the spring weather I now sleep with windows open. When I wake up and I notice that bad thoughts come up, I concentrate on listening to the birds singing outside.
Faith
Have faith in yourself and life. Nothing happens without a reason. With that attitude you can overcome many obstacles, problems and painful moments.
Gratitude
Be thankful for what you have. Be thankful for the people who are there for you and most importantly don’t take them for granted.
Often when I am in a church, I hear people asking God for something. Its the truly faithful people who go to a church just to thank God for what they have.

Cheers!
