I would like to bring this year’s branch „man of the month“ to the end with my good friend, my little bro, Florian.
We have a very uncommon friendship. When we met in 2012 just shortly before moving to Miami (we rented together an apartment to save money) we hardly knew anything about each other. We both were admitted to a program for jurists at the University of Miami. One lady from the organization to grant this possibility told me that there was only one another person at that time who got into the same program from Berlin and that I should contact him for maybe we could look for a shared flat.
Just after renting the apartment for the upcoming half a year we were sitting in a cafe and I asked him „Flo, what kind of music you actually into?“. After receiving the answer from him it was enough for me, I just knew it, we were completely different!
Flo flew over to the US a couple weeks ahead of me for he wanted to visit friends and his host family from passed times when he had a high school exchange year in the US.
I arrived in Miami on a rainy but warm day in August. Grabbed a cab, gave the driver the address and took a long ride through Miami at night. I arrived at our apartment past midnight. Flo was already waiting. He opened the door holding a pizza box „you must be hungry!“ he said.
So our living together began.
Like real jurists we sat down the very next day to discuss and negotiate the living arrangements. No point was left out. From cooking and cleaning over financial issues to lady times in the apartment. Thanks to our plan or our characters we never had even the slightest fight about anything. To this day I do not recall a negative talk with Flo.
Throughout time we got closer. Our differences were not a problem but rather an enrichment. We could learn from each other. Music tastes, fashion decisions, hobbies and life principles. All of them were not the same at the beginning but we made it work. This month four years ago the program ended. We said good-bye to our friends, to Miami and to each other.
We had a great time in Miami and I am glad to see our friendship continuing after the program.
Flo is just two years younger than me. But somehow I started to see him as my little brother. Not because I had to take care of him or he couldn’t do it on his own. Far from that. Flo is very successful in basically everything he does.
He is a great friend, son, brother to his littler brother and future husband and father. He has right principles and life expectations. I am very proud of him!
Cheers, my friend!
